Professor Victor Sontea, the Founder and President of the Biomedical Engineering Society of the Republic of Moldova, initiator of the bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral studies in Biomedical Engineering at the Technical University of Moldova passed away at the age of 74, on November 18, 2025. He was an active promoter of the Biomedical Engineering sector for improving quality of care and patient safety. Professor Sontea was the initiator and organizer of the well-established conference brand, ICNBME – International Conference on Nanotechnologies and Biomedical Engineering which experienced its 7th edition in 2025 and whose proceedings are published in the IFMBE Proceedings Series since 2015. The international BME community and the IFMBE will miss him as a colleague, a scientist, a teacher, but also a good person and friend.
