The 10th Anniversary of the IFMBE Latin American Summer School on Biomedical Engineering was successfully celebrated at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Bogotá, Colombia, from June 30th to July 4th, 2026.

Throughout the week, students from across Latin America came together to learn, collaborate, and innovate. One of the highlights of the Summer School was the Hackathon, where multidisciplinary teams devoted their time, knowledge, and creativity to addressing real-world healthcare challenges. Every participant demonstrated remarkable commitment, teamwork, and determination, giving their very best throughout the competition.

Due to the similar quality of performance and presentation, the jury has decided to split both the first and second place between two teams. We are pleased to announce the winning teams of the 2026 Hackathon:

1st Place

Sarcopenia Project: Christian Mendoza, Yuliana Ramos, Sebastián Norabuena, Susana Calderón, Alisson Jiménez

Diabetic Foot Project: José Adrián Rojas, Alessandra Valle, Itzury Méndez, Roberto Benjamín, Luis Mancilla

2nd Place

Cardiopulmonary Project: Ruth Gil, Sara Pedraza, Jamilet Cervantes, Alisson Montenegro, Kevin Centeno, Israel Herrera

Social Inclusion Project: Karol Campos, Osiris Santiago, Andrés Sanchez, Franco Peralta, Claudia Casanova

We also extend an Honorable Mention to all the remaining teams for their outstanding participation, hard work, dedication, and commitment throughout the entire week. Their enthusiasm, innovative ideas, and collaborative spirit greatly contributed to the success of this year’s Summer School.

While the Hackathon recognized outstanding projects, we firmly believe that every team is a winner. Each participant embraced the challenge with passion, perseverance, and a genuine commitment to improving healthcare through biomedical engineering.

Congratulations to all participants for making the 10th IFMBE Latin American Summer School on Biomedical Engineering an unforgettable experience. Thank you for being part of this milestone celebration, and for continuing to inspire innovation, collaboration, and excellence in biomedical engineering.
