Patras, Greece – May 2025
This year marked a remarkable milestone in the world of biomedical engineering education: the 35th Anniversary Reunion of the Erasmus Master in Biomedical Engineering (BME) Program, held in Patras, Greece. Alumni, professors, and esteemed guests gathered in an emotional celebration that honored not just the longevity of the program, but its profound and lasting impact on countless lives and careers across Europe and beyond.
The Alumni Meeting brought together former students — some reconnecting after decades — as well as colleagues who had only known each other through shared academic lineage. Emotions ran high as attendees reflected on how the program shaped their personal and professional trajectories. Many credited the program with changing their life paths, offering them not only knowledge and opportunity but a new way of thinking, working, and living.
A central figure in this celebration was Professor Nicolas Pallikarakis, whose leadership and dedication have been instrumental in sustaining and evolving the program over the decades. He and his team were lauded for organizing a memorable and heartfelt event, and more importantly, for their unwavering support to generations of students. Their work has gone far beyond administrative duty — it has been a labor of love and vision.
Attendees also paid tribute to the program’s founder, the late Professor Basil Proimos. His visionary spirit continues to inspire all who pass through the program, and his values remain deeply embedded in its DNA — a legacy of passion, critical thinking, and commitment to service.
The event was further distinguished by the presence of high-level international figures, including the IFMBE President Prof. Ratko Majarevic and IFMBE Secretary General Prof. Leandro Pecchia, underscoring the program’s global recognition and influence.
As the Erasmus Patras BME Program looks ahead to the future, it does so with a renewed sense of purpose and community — a testament to the enduring power of education, and to the people who make it transformative.
